Creating a more sustainable world - one project at a time

Fargo Education Center - Mass Audubon

MHA completed a study in 2011 in preparation for fundraising. After fundraising we completed design and construction in 2016 for the renovation of the Broad Meadow Brook site including the 42-space parking lot and revised site entry, as well as the renovation & addition to the Bachand house. The site renovation included rain gardens as examples of sustainable storm-water management.

The 3,300 SF home was renovated in a deep energy retrofit manner and a small addition was constructed, providing the community with examples for new and existing construction for super efficient building envelopes. The final 4,800 SF building is expected to be a net-zero energy facility with its super-insulated shell, air to air heat pumps and energy recovery ventilation, in combination with its 13.2 KW roof-top photovoltaic system.

The multi-purpose building will be used for preschool and classroom space for visiting school children as well as summer camp and office space. The 1,600 square foot porch allows over a hundred children to complete activities but under cover on rainy days.
